Newport Beach Medical Associates is an Internal Medicine Group that was founded in 1996 by James Berman, M.D., Atef Khouzam, M.D. and the late Robert Stein, M.D. The physicians of NBMA are on the medical staff of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

NBMA physicians are internists, specialists in adult medicine.  They are all board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and have diverse backgrounds, excellent academic credentials, and extensive experience in the practice of medicine.  Many of our physicians have been involved in leadership positions at Hoag Hospital and have served on several medical staff committees.

As internists, NBMA physicians often deal with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension, and are also skilled in management of other serious medical diseases involving heart disease, stroke, cancer, lung disorders, gastrointestinal problems, infectious diseases, and various other conditions.

Meet our Providers

NBMA doctors are trained providers in traditional internal medicine, and all of them have incorporated the unique feature of Concierge Medicine into their practices, either comprehensively as the entire practice of that physician, or as a hybrid model with other variations of healthcare.  Features of this program are outlined in the “Services” section.

Some of our physicians have individually earned the distinction of being named as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), and Dr. Knox has expertise as a Masters in Public Health (MPH).  Many of the NBMA physicians have received recognition in the medical community for excellence in internal medicine.

Our patients have consistently noted high satisfaction with their physicians, and have developed close doctor-patient relationships over several years.
